After their new outfielder helped them snap out of an offensive funk, the Los Angeles Angels will look to secure their second series win this season when they meet the host Pittsburgh Pirates on Wednesday in the rubber match of a three-game set. Kevin Pillar hit two home runs and tallied a career-high six RBIs as Los Angeles blanked Pittsburgh 9-0 on Tuesday after losing the series opener 4-1. Los Angeles star center fielder Mike Trout is expected to miss up to three months after undergoing surgery for a torn left meniscus. "I know my role here," Pillar said.

In that respect, the Angels are learning a lot about running the bases this season. Washington said from the moment he was hired, and he reiterated throughout spring training, that he wanted the Angels to aggressively run the bases. Edward Olivares hit his first career grand slam and Mitch Keller pitched a five-hitter to lead the Pittsburgh Pirates to a 4-1 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Monday night. Olivares’ slam came off Tyler Anderson in the third inning to break a scoreless tie as the Pirates went on to their third consecutive victory following a five-game losing streak. The Angels lost for the 14th time in 17 games.

Johan Rojas hit a tiebreaking two-run homer in the ninth inning moments after Nick Castellanos' tying shot, sending the Philadelphia Phillies to a 7-5 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Tuesday night. Trailing 5-4 with one out and nobody on base in the ninth, the Phillies avoided only their second back-to-back losses since March with three extra-base hits on five pitches from Angels closer Carlos Estévez (0-1), who blew his second save of the season in spectacular fashion. After Castellanos hit a solo shot to right for only his second homer of a rough year, Bryson Stott doubled and scored on Rojas' first homer of the season.
