Philadelphia Phillies
It's hard to believe the Philadelphia Phillies are done making moves, but that's exactly how it appears at this point in the offseason. This roster is littered with star players, and despite coming up short the last two playoffs, there is more than enough in place for them to win their first World Series since 2008, even if the battle is an uphill one based on their strong division and the loaded National League as a whole.

The Philadelphia Phillies attempted to bolster the bullpen ahead of the trade deadline this past summer. Philadelphia knew it needed to bolster its bullpen throughout the 2024 campaign and went out and acquired Carlos Estévez from the Los Angeles Angels. Estévez had a 3.90 ERA across 63 appearances in 2023 with the Angels. It's unclear why things have slowed down as much as they have in free agency, but Estévez is still out there on the open market.

The Cincinnati Reds are making a notable addition to their outfield, as they have reached an agreement with Austin Hays on a one-year, $5 million contract, according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic. Hays split time between the Baltimore Orioles and Philadelphia Phillies last season, posting a 101 OPS+ on the season, with a mark of 108 with the Orioles and 86 with the Phillies, according to Baseball Reference. Hays briefly debuted in 2017, and then returned in 2019 with the Orioles, playing just 21 games, and then played 33 games in the 60-game 2020 season.

The Philadelphia Phillies have been relatively quiet this offseason. Aside from that move, Philadelphia hasn't done much, but they still are one of the top teams in Major League Baseball and should be a World Series contender. Third baseman Alec Bohm has been at the center of trade rumors for much of the offseason. The Phillies have been unable to find a trade partner, but that doesn't mean they won't find one eventually.

The Philadelphia Phillies' signature move so far this winter was a trade for a starting pitcher. After landing left-hander Jesús Luzardo in a December deal with the Miami Marlins, the Phillies have one of the most stacked rotations in all of Major League Baseball. The San Diego Padres have starting pitching in abundance, but with an ownership controversy plaguing the organization, they may be looking to trade one of their starters away.

Can the Philadelphia Phillies win how currently constructed? The Phillies made their magical run to the Fall Classic in 2022 with a worse roster on paper. Bryson Stott is the one many have circled inside and outside the organization. After being a breakout star in 2023 where it looked like he could become one of the best second basemen in Major League Baseball, he took a huge step back this past campaign which is cause for concern about what his true ceiling might be.

The Philadelphia Phillies' outfield is the one blemish on an otherwise brilliantly constructed roster. Last season, the Phillies had eight All-Stars, the most of any team in Major League Baseball. Because Johan Rojas didn't pan out in his first full season at the big-league level, the Phillies could be in the market for a center fielder. Chicago White Sox center fielder Luis Robert Jr. is a hot-topic trade candidate this winter, because his team is in the dumpster.

Throughout his tenure with the Philadelphia Phillies, Bryce Harper has been know to support the rest of the areas teams. As he enjoys the downtime of the offseason, the former MVP was spotted donning some 76ers attire. Back in the fall Harper wrapped up his sixth season with the Phillies, helping them reach the postseason for a third consecutive year. Despite entering the postseason with championship aspirations, they were eliminated in the divisional round at the hands of the New York Mets.

The Philadelphia Phillies have several notable free agents set to hit the market following the 2025 season, and many of them will result in tough decisions on who to retain and who to let walk. One such player is power-hitter lead-off man Kyle Schwarber, who will be an unrestricted free agent after this upcoming season, and despite a lack of fielding value has been an absolute powerhouse at the plate. Designated hitter is the role where he performs best, so it made sense to move him into a role where he could focus on his batting and plate discipline. This resulted in an extremely productive 2024 season, and strong metrics in most categories.

When will free agency heat up again across Major League Baseball? Spring training is almost here and yet things have completely stalled across the league free agent-wise. Surely, we should see some moves pop up as players try to sign before Spring Training. One player who is still out there is Boston Red Sox All-Star closer Kenley Jansen.

The Los Angeles Angels have had a checkered offseason. Making their first transactions mere hours after the final out was recorded in the 2024 World Series, the Angels brought in a veteran presence, acquiring Jorge Soler. The Halos were also quick to add pitchers Kyle Hendricks and Yusei Kikuchi to bolster their rotation, and even added catcher Travis d'Arnaud and infielder Kevin Newman to round out the offense.
