Michael Conforto had three hits, including a homer, Blake Sabol also had three hits, and the San Francisco Giants beat the Colorado Rockies 8-6 in Denver on Wednesday night. Matt Chapman and Mike Yastrzemski had two hits each for San Francisco, which has won two straight after dropping four in a row.

On a day when Kris Bryant took a small step toward returning to the lineup, the veteran first baseman/outfielder talked in-depth for the first time Wednesday about the nature of the back injury that has haunted him since signing with the Rockies before the 2022 season. Bryant exacerbated his back problem on April 13 when he crashed into the outfield wall in Toronto while making a catch in the first inning. Bryant, who signed a seven-year, $182 million free-agent contract with the Rockies before the 2022 season, acknowledged that he has disc and arthritis problems in his lower back. “I guess it's hard to speak on because I'm not a doctor, but the discs in my back are pretty much dried up, so there's a couple of discs that  … they don't function like they did 10 years ago,” Bryant said.

The Giants placed designated hitter Jorge Soler on the 10-day injured list and called up outfielder Heliot Ramos from Triple-A Sacramento.

For Hazel Green native Jordan Green, the waiting game to get his chance in the big leagues ended on April 30. “It was pretty sweet,” Beck said of getting called up. Luckily, the big leagues had an off day. Beck had gotten off to a hot start in Triple-A, hitting .307 with five homers, 28 runs batted in, 10 doubles, two triples, 18 walks, and five steals in 25 games.

Rookie Kyle Harrison pitched seven scoreless innings and the San Francisco Giants scored four runs in a decisive fourth inning despite getting only two balls out of the infield in a 5-0 victory over Colorado on Tuesday. Harrison (3-1) gave up four hits, all singles, and struck out two. “Talk about pounding the zone," Giants manager Bob Melvin said.

Dexter Fowler graduated from Penn State with a Bachelor of Science degree this week. The 2016 World Series champion joined his classmates in Happy Valley to walk across the stage with his diploma. Jesús Sánchez hit a game-winning single in the bottom of the 10th inning and the Miami Marlins beat the Colorado Rockies 5-4 Thursday and swept their three-game series. The Marlins got two of their three victories in the series in 10 innings. Sánchez’s two-out opposite-field line drive to left off reliever Jalen Beeks scored automatic runner Luis Arraez from second.

Alvarez hit a two-run homer to center field and Tucker followed with a shot to left field and the Astros took a 4-2 lead in the third.
