During Gerrit Cole's absence, Luis Gil has slotted in perfectly in the New York Yankees' rotation, and in his latest start, he dominated the Houston Astros in six innings, which prompted shortstop Anthony Volpe to comment on the reactions of the Astros' hitters. “It's like the fastball is 110 mph. It's like the hardest fastball they've seen,” Anthony Volpe said, via Brendan Kuty of The Athletic. Luis Gil threw six innings, giving up just one hit and one run on Kyle Tucker's first-inning home run.

New York Yankees starting pitcher Luis Gil had every reason in the world to have the jitters going into Tuesday night's game. Running catches by Juan Soto and Alex Verdugo robbed the Houston Astros of base hits and the chance to score. Verdugo came in especially clutch in the final two outs of the sixth inning, tracking out No. 2 to the corner of the warning track and then dashing into no man's land for the final out.

If Oswald Peraza went 0-for-4 on Tuesday with Class-A Tampa — the first game of a rehab assignment — it still would've been encouraging. Peraza hadn't played in a game since March 6, his third game of the spring and his final appearance in Grapefruit League play before getting shut down with a subscapularis strain. Peraza was 2-for-3 as the designated hitter on Tuesday, swatting a booming home run to left field with a single and a walk in the Tarpons' seven-inning win at Steinbrenner Field. Shortly before his home run, Yankees manager Aaron Boone was speaking about the former top prospect and his rehab schedule during his pregame presser with reporters at Yankee Stadium.

New York Yankees right fielder Juan Soto produced his fourth three-hit game this season on Tuesday, but after carrying the club offensively in the opening weeks, Soto has of late received ample help. The Yankees routed the visiting Houston Astros 10-3 in the opener of a three-game series that continues Wednesday, with Soto playing a supporting role in the dismantling. Anthony Volpe also homered and produced three RBIs. "It takes every single guy to win a ballgame," said Soto, who finished 3-for-4.

New York Yankees Viewed as Suitor for Arizona Diamondbacks' Slugger A potential trade candidate for the New York Yankees would add them one of the top hitters in the game. Author: Jon Conahan May 08, 2024 In this story: New York Yankees Christian Walker MLB Arizona Diamondbacks Entering the season, the expectation was for the New York Yankees to have one of the best offenses in baseball. While their 23-13 start has been impressive, most of that hasn't been due to their offense. The Yankees have struggled at times to put together runs in multiple scenarios, a concerning sign nearly 40 games into the season. With the trade deadline approaching, not only will they need to add pitching, as every

NEW YORK — Even after a power-packed performance against one of baseball’s best pitchers, Aaron Judge wasn’t ready to declare himself close to being where he wants at the plate. The Yankees star had just turned a pair of 97-mph fastballs from the Tigers’ Tarik Skubal into a 399-foot home run and a booming double — both to the opposite field — during Sunday’s 5-2 win over Detroit, capping a ...
