Bryce Harper chucked his bat toward the dugout in anger after a groundout in the eighth inning and the Phillies left the tying run stranded on base in the ninth, enough for the Toronto Blue Jays to hold on for a 5-3 victory Wednesday that ended Philadelphia's home winning streak at 11 games. Harper, who had homered in the last three games, went to the plate in the eighth with the Phillies down 5-2 with two outs and a runner on second base.

Although he may not have been the same player he was in his prime with the Kansas City Royals, Whit Merrifield was still very solid for the Toronto Blue Jays. Merrifield, a three-time All Star, was acquired by the Blue Jays late in the 2022 season in exchange for Max Castillo and Samad Taylor. Many Blue Jays fans hoped he would be back for the 2024 season, but that did not come to fruition. Merrifield instead chose to join the Philadelphia Phillies, who are in Toronto right now for a two-game series.

A Detroit Tigers game against the Toronto Blue Jays later this month has been moved to a morning first pitch. The series finale between the two teams on Sunday, May 26, at Comerica Park was supposed to begin at 1:40 p.m. But first pitch has been moved to 11:35 a.m. The Tigers said this change happened because the game was “selected by a national rights-holder.” Detroit is currently 19-17 and in fourth place in the AL Central.

For Blue Jays utility man Davis Schneider, one of those came on Tuesday night when he got his first chance to play at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, just a short drive from his hometown of Berlin, New Jersey. Hundreds of friends and family members made the trip to cheer on the 25-year-old, with Berlin just on the other side of the Pennsylvania-Jersey border. “It feels like my MLB debut,” Schneider told Sportsnet's Hazel Mae.

Eddie Rosario's two-run homer in the seventh inning broke an 8-8 tie and the Washington Nationals beat the Toronto Blue Jays 11-8 on Sunday. After Jesse Winker doubled against Genesis Cabrera (1-1) leading off, Erik Swanson came on and got two outs, but Rosario — who began the day hitting .096 — homered to right center to make it 10-8. “I needed it, as you can see based on the start I’ve had,” Rosario said through an interpreter.
