The staff under new Chicago White Sox manager Will Venable is taking shape with Walker McKinven hired as the team's bench coach. McKinven, 35, comes from the staff of the Milwaukee Brewers, where the former minor league pitcher worked as the club's run-prevention coordinator. The Chicago-area native had a game-planning role under manager Pat Murphy and had been with Milwaukee for nine seasons. Venable was announced as the new White Sox manager on Nov. 8. There are going to be more and more rumors swirling about the Boston Red Sox as the Winter Meetings approach. The Winter Meetings kick off in early December, and that typically is the unofficial beginning of big signings across Major League Baseball. The Red Sox likely will be involved in both avenues and have been linked to top-tier free agents as well as top trade candidates. Boston needs to add some more pitching and CBS's Matt Geagan suggested Chicago White Sox All-Star Garrett Crochet as a fit and mentioned outfielder Wilyer Abreu as a trade option.

When former top prospect Heliot Ramos finally emerged for the San Francisco Giants this year, their outfield became fairly crowded during the season and when looking ahead towards the future. Despite Jung Hoo Lee being sidelined with a shoulder injury that ended his rookie campaign, the everyday addition of Ramos alongside Michael Conforto, Mike Yastrzemski, Austin Slater and a rotating cast of minor leaguers because of injuries created a logjam. Because of that, the Giants decided to ship Slater out to the Cincinnati Reds on July 7 in exchange for pitcher Alex Young.
